Sheriff Senior Volunteers 50+
Full Description:
Seeking Sheriff Senior Volunteers from the Rancho Bernardo and 4S Ranch Area.
The Sheriff Substation is recruiting for its Senior Volunteer Patrol (SVP) in the Rancho Bernardo and 4S Ranch Area. The Patrol is staffed entirely by volunteers 50 years and older who want to serve their community by providing support to Sheriff Deputies. Volunteers are asked to spend a minimum of six hours a week performing their duties and will work out of the 4S Ranch Substation.
A Senior Volunteer Patrol applicant must attend a two week formal training academy. Academy training includes CPR, first aid, public relations, chain of command, rules and regulations, radio procedures, safe driving, map reading, crime prevention, traffic control and patrol observations. Also covered are procedures for doing security checks of homes and businesses, fingerprinting, report writing, parking enforcement, sexual harassment and the YANA (You Are Not Alone) program.
Because SVP members have access to confidential and sensitive information, all SVP applicants will be subject to a background screening process. This includes a computer check of driving and criminal history as well as an oral interview.
Typical Duties:
• Make vacation home security checks while residents are away.
• Visit the homebound (YANA) by checking on those members of the community who are shut-ins and unable to leave their home, usually because of health reasons.
• Enforce handicapped parking regulations.
• Patrolling communities and shopping centers in vehicles clearly marked as part of the Sheriff SVP program.
• Assist Crime Prevention with public presentations.
• Provide Traffic Control at accidents, fires, special events, and disasters.
• Traffic Radar display.
• Assist in locating Alzheimer's patients.
• Mark abandoned vehicles.
• Staff Substation Office, meeting the public as they enter the station.
Since their inception San Diego Sheriff SVP volunteers have donated over 200,000 hours. It is clear that they are a very valuable resource for both the Sheriff's Department and the communities they support. Would you like to join their ranks?
If you are in the 4S Ranch or Rancho Bernardo area and meet the above requirement, please call 858-521-5211 for more information.
