Intelligent Fun returns to RB

Full Description:

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute of California State University San Marcos returns to Rancho Bernardo for the Spring term with college level courses for "the pure joy of learning"  for  ages 50 and up. Classes are being held at  National University  at 16875  West Bernardo Drive.  Spring term  classes begins Friday February 12th.

The Stone Age Paradigm: Healthy Lifestyle Principles from the Past
The students will recognize that our current lifestyle does not match our genetic make-up.
We will introduce them to Sam and Sal, who lived more than 50,000 years ago but who were
identical to us in the way they looked and the way their bodies worked. Participants will understand why heredity is not predestination, that all the so called diseases of aging can be either prevented or postponed, and that they can avoid the lingering disability that most people accept as they age. Dr. Goscienski will cover longevity, obesity, diabetes,
osteoporosis, dementia, and healthcare crisis.

Instructor: Philip Goscienski, MD, retired from the Navy with the rank of captain, and head of the Infectious Diseases Branch, in the Department of Pediatrics at the Naval Regional Medical Center in San Diego. Formerly Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University
of California at San Diego School of Medicine, he continues to teach medical students on a volunteer basis.

What students are saying :
“Very Organized, logical presentation on a subject he knows
well. Good Visuals!”
“Excellent & clear presentation - knowledgable in
subjects - interactive and much info ofvalue to Osher age
participants!”

Inside the Third Reich: The Political Philosophy and Ideology of Nazi Germany
During the first half of the twentieth century one of the most hated political regimes the
world has ever seen emerged in Germany. How could this extreme political movement
come to power? What was the secret behind Hitler’s ability to organize human and material
resources. The answer, in part, can be found in the Nazi’s philosophy and ideology. Where
did these ideas come from? How did Hitler and his henchmen organize their empire? How
did they develop programs of education, and support for the arts? Were the Nazi’s a group that supported the economic and political ideas of the old guard, or were they fundamentally radical socialists? Was Nazism the logical outcome of the European tradition, or something that was entirely an aberration. Come and learn about the evil, and often bizarre, ideas that
once threatened to overwhelm the world.

Instructor: Jack Williams, Ph.D. has worked as an archaeologist and historian on various research projects in the United States, Mexico, South America, and Europe. He received a B.A. degree
in anthropology and history from San Diego State University, and Master’s and Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Arizona. Dr. Williams is a faculty member at Inter-American College in National City, San Diego and also he has taught at Arizona State University and the University of San Diego.

What students are saying :
“Dr. Williams gives an excellent presentation of all sides
of a controversy, while making his own views clean. Such
full explanation are appreciated. Also he obviously has a
superb grasp of the subject matter.”
“So well organized! Very knowledgeable instructor, very
nice way about him and how he related to students in
the class.”
